3D Week 04 Lego Project Part 02

Since Hurricane Irma kind of threw a wrench into the original Lego project plan we decided to create a small individual Lego project in class. I still worked in the T-Rex I made for the Batman cave by making a scene from Jurassic Park.

2D Class Week 05 - The Art of Frank Frazetta

2D Class Week 05 (One,Two, and Three Point Perspective)

This week we went over one, two and three point perspective. We were tasked with creating an image in a chosen perspective. I chose to use a two point perspective.

3D Class Week 05 Modeling A Prop

This week we were tasked with creating a cannon and bringing it into Unreal. I decided to a more realistic military artillery. I did a bit of research and found the one that I wanted to model. Unfortunately I was only to find a side image plane for use inside of Maya, but I found a ton of reference pictures from various other angles.

For my next steps I'll probably go through and optimize the model a bit. It's currently sitting at about 10k Tris and I could probably afford to collapse some of the verts on the cylindrical bits.

3D Week 03 Lego Project Part 01

For this weeks assignment we were put into groups in order to create a VR scene made out of legos. The topic that my group wound up with is Batman. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy with the topic our group got. We decided to create a Bat-cave scene since that would give us a wide variety of interesting assets to work on. I kind of skipped ahead and worked on one of the set pieces for the Bat-cave which is the T-Rex that's in Batman's trophy section of the Bat-cave.

I also created some sloped 4x4 lego pieces that would fit together to create some of the man-made platforms in the Bat-cave.

I'm really enjoying this assignment and look forward to seeing all the aspects of it come together.

2D Class Week 02 The Art of Brian Froud

I've always felt that Brian Froud was an artist that found a perfect balance between childlike wonder and unsettling. The first exposure I had to Brian Froud was watching Labyrinth when I was a kid. I used to love that movie but it still wound up giving me nightmares every time I watched it.

2D Class Week 02 Silhouettes

For this weeks assignment we were tasked with creating silhouettes for either characters, creatures, weapons, transports or environments. I decided to go with characters and created a race of demons that could exist in a RPG setting. I tried to keep each characters core anatomy fairly similar except in the case of the final silhouette which I just had a bit of fun with.

3D Week 02 Mincraft-ish Level

For this assignment we had to create an environment using Minecraft blocks. I wanted to make a scene that looked like it receded into darkness and could go on for quite a while, for that effect I took inspiration from the Mines of Moria from the Lord of the rings.

Getting the desired structure wound up taking a lot more blocks than I anticipated but I approached the scene in a modular way so I didn't have to create each part over and over again. I also played around with both the color of the exponential height fog and the lighting so that I could have complimentary tones in the lights and shadows.

I originally made several different Minecraft blocks that I planned on using to make a scene without much of a plan and that didn't really go so well (surprising, I know). I abandoned most of the blocks I created and just used three from my original set of eight.
