2D Class Week 15 Bringing It All Together Illustration 2 Continued

So I decided to scrap the original illustration that I was working on and went in a different direction. I decided to mix more a more traditional method with digital methods. I combined a scratch board I did of Freddie Mercury and digital painting techniques.

2D Class Week 11 Composition Part 02

For this assignment I decided to go with a shot from It. It didn't exactly fit into a rule of thirds so i shifted the image a bit to better frame it.

2D Class Week 10 Film - Alien

Who was the director of the film? What other movies has this director produced?
Alien was directed by Ridley Scott who directed Blade Runner and The Martian

Artistically, what did you like about this film?
The main thing I like about the Alien franchise is the lighting and the atmosphere. The atmosphere and lighting adds a lot to the foreboding nature of the film.

What is the name of Ripley's cat?
Ripley's cat is named Jones or Jonesy depending on which character is calling his name.

2D Class Week 09 Film - Blade Runner

1. Who was the director of the film?

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was directed by George Miller.

2. Artistically, what did you like about this film?

I'm a sucker for post apocalyptic settings and this movie has a combination of a great post apocalyptic environment (Bartertown) and great costumes. You can definitely see the influence that this movie had on the Borderlands series of games.

3. Who runs Bartertown?

I think it's made pretty clear that Master Blaster runs barter town. Without Master Blaster and their pigs the town would quickly fall into darkness. I think Tina Turner comes in a close second, not the character she plays but Tina Turner the actual person.

2D Class Week 08 Film - Blade Runner

1.Who was the director of the film? What other movies has the director produced?

The director of Blade Runner is Ridley Scott. He gave us the Alien series of films, Black Hawk Down, The Martian, Hannibal and a bunch of other films. He also made Legend which is as close as we’ve come to a live action Zelda movie.

2. Artistically, what did you like about the film?

The thing I like most about Blade Runner is the effort that went into the world building. I especially loved all the detail that went into the miniatures. A lot of the detail that went into the art of blade runner was a result of an actor’s strike that was going on at the time which allowed the art department to have nine months of pre-production.

3. Is Deckard a replicant?

I still haven’t seen the new Blade Runner movie but based on the original I would say that Deckard is a replicant. The movie makes a point of showing the slightly glowing eyes of any character that is a replicant and during the scene with Deckard and Rachel in his apartment you can clearly see his eyes glowing.

The second thing that leads me to believe that Deckard is a replicant is the unicorn dream sequence followed by the end scene of Deckard finding the origami unicorn left by Gaff. Gaff obviously knows that Deckard is having the dream about the unicorn which Gaff shouldn’t have knowledge of unless those memories were implanted, similarly to Rachel’s memories. I actually think that the memories that Deckard has implanted were originally Gaff’s and Gaff is acting as a sort of handler for Deckard since he would be able to know how Deckard would behave.

Lastly I think that Deckard is a replicant because it makes sense thematically. Ridley Scott tends to use a lot of religious themes in his works and if Deckard is a replicant he and Rachel would fit neatly into an Adam and Eve allegory. At the end of the movie Deckard receives the origami unicorn (symbolizing the forbidden knowledge) that banishes them from their previous life (garden of Eden). Or maybe I’ve given this way too much thought. Either way I’ll find out when I see the new movie.
